If you want to conduct family planning research, hold a senior position in academia, or be a leader in national or international family planning, the Fellowship in Family Planning will give you the necessary training and network.

ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP

  • Former Family Planning Fellows hold academic positions in departments of obstetrics and gynecology in the United States and Canada.

  • The Fellowship in Family Planning's connection with the Kenneth J. Ryan Residency Training Program gives fellows the opportunity to become academic leaders by training residents in contraception and abortion.

  • Bringing their unique clinical and research expertise in family planning to academic departments, former fellows are ideally suited to start new Fellowships in Family Planning
  • RESEARCH

  • Working with leading researchers and clinicians, Family Planning Fellows conduct innovative reproductive health research and are poised to develop new approaches to contraception and pregnancy termination in the United States and abroad.
  • Fellows present their research at national conferences and clinical meetings.
  • Fellows publish their research in leading journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Contraception, and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • International family planning is an important aspect of the fellowship training. Directors are closely tied to international family planning programs and connect fellows to international resources and networks.
  • Fellows complete at least one international placement, which typically lasts between one and three months. The fellowship covers stipends, transportation and other expenses associated with the placement.
  • As a result of these placements, fellows have worked as reproductive health advisors and clinicians in South East Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Central and South America.
  • PUBLIC POLICY AND ADVOCACY

  • Annual workshops addressing current public affairs and policy topics provide fellows with the context and knowledge to be effective participants and leaders in establishing policy
  • Media training gives fellows the communication skills and confidence to become advocates for evidence based practices and policy.
  • Fellows can learn about and participate in advocacy efforts of pro-choice and professional organizations.
  • NETWORKING

  • The fellowship connects current and former fellows to a rapidly expanding network of family planning experts.
  • Annual fellowship meetings bring together fellowship directors, current and former fellows, and other experts, providing opportunities for research collaboration, sharing findings and developing professional connections.
  • Workshops sponsored through the fellowship provide trianing in business and other proactical skills for post-fellowship positions and international family planning endeavors.
  • The fellowship in family planning listserv and newsletter facilitate communication among fellows.
  • The fellowship's association with the Ryan Residency Program, international consultants, and other leaders in family planning offers graduated fellows a variety of opportunities for post fellowship employment.
